Researchers identify potential weakness in HIV virusAn article in Nature reports that scientists may have identified a vulnerability in the HIV virus. The human immune system has such a difficult time with the virus because of its surface proteins that are constantly changing structure. Without a consistent structure it is thought to be impossible to develop antibodies that can bind to the virus. Researchers have determined, however, that an unchanging site within the gp120 gene, previously thought to be inaccessible to antibodies, may actually offer an ideal binding location.
